I downed the rest of my vodka tonic and put down the cup for the air hostess to collect.
“Alright,” I said. “I think we can pull this off.”
Harper nodded at me, smiling. The bit of alcohol in my system was just enough to take the edge off, and God knew it was a hell of an edge.
We went to the lawyer’s office straight after we checked into our hotel in LA. There wasn’t any time to waste—I wanted to handle this as soon as possible.
The lawyer’s offices were as drab I remembered them to be. Harper and I were escorted to an office rather than the conference room we had used before. The door had William Danbury’s name printed in gold on it and I knocked before we entered.
“Mr. Griffin,” Danbury said, with a smile that looked a lot more sincere than what I had seen on him last week.
“Call me Caden, please,” I said. “And this is Harper, my fiancée.”
Harper took Danbury’s hand and she smiled at him sweetly. I watched her transform in front of my eyes, that charm that had drawn me to her from the start just dripping off her. Danbury smiled and he only had eyes for her.
She was doing this on purpose, I knew that. But God, she was beautiful.
“Sit down, please,” Danbury said, when he finally let go of Harper’s hand. Harper and I each sat down in an armchair, but Harper shifted her chair a little closer to mine and held out her hand. I took it. It was the little things, wasn’t it? She knew exactly what she was doing.
“Tell me about yourself,” Danbury said, smiling at Harper.
“Oh, there’s not much to tell,” she said. “I work at Caden’s restaurant. That’s how we met—he needed staff for the restaurant and he hired me.” She glanced at me with eyes that shone like the stars. “It’s downhill from there. Like a storybook romance, so cliché.” She giggled. “We’re really lucky to work together.”
Danbury smiled, nodding. He glanced at me and I could see he was buying every word of it. Harper had him eating out of her hand. If I didn’t know it was all an act I would have done the same. She was so convincing, and she made what we had seem like it was so real.
“When are you planning on getting married?” Danbury asked.
“Oh, as soon as possible, I think,” Harper said, looking at me again. “Right, honey? I mean, it’s pointless postponing this any longer when we both know what we want.”
“Right,” I said. I hadn’t added much to the conversation. I had agreed with Harper here and there, but she had taken over the conversation and sold the whole thing.
“Well, I think I’ve heard everything I need to hear,” Danbury finally said, pressing his palms flat onto his desk. “I’m going to go on ahead and draw up that paperwork for you, Caden. Why don’t the two of you come back tomorrow? I’ll have it ready for you to sign, then.”
I nodded. That had been a piece of cake. Harper and I both stood, thanking Danbury for his time.
“Thank you for making the trip down here, Miss Donaldson,” Danbury said, and he shook both our hands.
When we left the office and sat in the cab on the way back to the hotel, I grabbed Harper’s hand and squeezed it.
“Excuse my language, but you were fucking good,” I said.
Harper smiled. “I think it worked.”
“Are you kidding me? You did so well I think even Danbury is in love with you.”
Harper chuckled and I could swear she blushed. Her cheeks turned a rosy red but she turned her head to the window so I couldn’t be sure.
“We need to celebrate this,” I said. “Dinner on me at the hotel restaurant.”
“You can’t keep paying for meals,” Harper said.
“See it as a business trip on me and everything else is included. Accommodation and meals.”
Harper wanted to argue about it but she couldn’t. Technically, I was right. But I wanted to treat her as a way to say thank you for what she was doing for me.
We arrived back at the hotel. It wasn’t the same hotel I had stayed at last week—I had wanted something a little classier for Harper.
“I’m sorry we’re in the same room,” I said. I hadn’t had the cash to book two rooms but I had booked a room with twin beds, at least.
“It’s alright,” Harper said, when we walked to the room. “The story will check out if they do follow up on us here at the hotel, somehow.”
She was right, although I doubted that would happen. Danbury fully believed us.
I dressed for dinner in the room, while Harper dressed in the bathroom. When she emerged she wore a cream colored lace dress that flared at the waist and she looked really cute. She wore nude heels with it and she had twisted her hair up in a bun or whatever it’s called. She looked casual and adorable.
I’d put on faded jeans and a collared shirt with my best pair of loafers. We looked great together, even if I had to say so myself.
On our way down to the hotel restaurant, heads turned toward Harper. She looked great. I wasn’t jealous, I was proud. We sat down and we had a great meal together, getting to know each other. The more time I spent with Harper, the more I liked her as a person. I had known she was a great girl when I had hired her—she’d made the cut above the rest for a reason. And over the past year, she’d proven to be a great employee. But there was so much more to her that I was getting to know now.
We drank wine while we ate and the alcohol went straight to my head. I felt light and airy. Harper was feeling the alcohol too, I could tell. She laughed more and she seemed relaxed. She hadn’t seemed uptight until I discovered what she looked like when she was completely relaxed.
“Shall we head back to the room?” I asked, when it started getting late. Harper glanced at her watch.
“I think so. It’s weird not being at the restaurant.”
I agreed. If we were back home we would be tidying up the restaurant right now.
After paying for our meal, we finished the last of our wine before we walked up to the room. Harper was unstable on her heels with the alcohol in her system and she leaned on me a bit. I liked having her body pressed up against mine. We walked to the room and I unlocked the door with the key card. Harper walked to the bathroom and closed the door, but it didn’t click shut. Instead, it opened again slightly and I saw her as she pulled the dress over her head. She wore white lace underwear and her body was amazing. I turned away.
I wasn’t going to be a pervert and stare at her when she had no idea I was looking, but God, I wanted her. The wine in my system made me horny and our little trip had blurred the lines between business and pleasure. I was starting to look at her in a way I hadn’t before. But this was Harper, I told myself. I couldn’t think of her as a one night stand. We worked together and I knew her as a person. It wouldn’t be right.
So, instead of making a move I put on my boxers and pulled a t-shirt over my head. I climbed into my bed. Harper came out of the bathroom wearing pajama shorts and a cute tank top. She crawled into her bed and we turned out the lights.
I tried to focus on falling asleep and avoid thinking about the woman in the bed next to mine. But my dick was hard and I was wide awake, the wine was making me feel lightheaded.
I heard Harper’s mattress creak and a moment later, my mattress dipped as she lifted the covers and slid in.
“I don’t like sleeping alone,” she whispered. I was tipsy so I didn’t consider the fact that she lived alone, and hence, slept alone every night. I turned to her and there was so little space in the twin bed that my movement rolled us together. My cock pressed against her crotch like a homing missile and Harper gasped. I pushed my hand into her hair and kissed her.
Chapter 10
Harper
It was probably a bad idea to get into Caden’s bed but I was tipsy and horny and he was right there. He had been so charming all day, treating me a like a princess, paying for my meals and my wine, and telling me that I looked nice. He wanted to find out who I was, and when a man was genuinely interested, it was so attractive.

br /> Not to mention the fact that Caden was GQ-magazine-gorgeous. I had been fighting my desire for him all day, but the wine had lowered my inhibitions. Then there was that raging hard on in his pants when he rolled against me. When his lips landed on mine, I sighed and melted into him. His hand was in my hair and he ground his hips, rubbing his hard dick against me.
Desire washed over me and I was rapidly getting wet for him. The bed was so small we had to keep pressed up against each other but that wasn’t a problem. Caden’s hand slid down my back and onto my ass. He squeezed my ass, grinding himself against me and I moaned into his mouth.
Caden brought his hand up again, pushing it beneath my clothes and his palm was rough on my skin. He slid up to my breast, naked under my shirt and squeezed it, tugging at my already hard nipple. Caden shifted away far enough that he could tug up my shirt and suck my nipple into his mouth and I moaned, running my fingers through his messy hair. I closed my eyes and lost myself in the sensation of his mouth on my nipple.
I pushed my hand into Caden’s boxers, and palmed his thick flesh, noticing how the elastic was already pulling away from his waist because of his erection. He shuddered when I did and I pumped my hand up and down his shaft, his dick thick and long in my hand. He was a lot bigger than I’d imagined—not that I had been dreaming about his cock, but still.
Caden moved to my other breast, pushing my top further up. I let go of his cock and lifted my arms so Caden could remove my top completely. He pushed up on his hands and pulled me under him so that I was on my back. Caden looked down at my breasts in the dim light that fell through the window.
“You’re so fucking beautiful,” he said. Not sexy, not hot, beautiful. I wondered if men knew how their choice of words affected women.
I didn’t have a chance to respond. Caden kissed me again, his hand going to my breast as he did, massaging and squeezing while his tongue slipped into my mouth. He tasted and explored me, and I gave myself over to him because this was exactly what I wanted. A little voice at the back of my mind screamed at me, but I pushed the voice away and since I had nearly drowned it in alcohol, it shut up pretty quickly.
Caden worked his way down my body, kissing and licking me, nipping me with his teeth now and then so that I yelped. His hands were large, covering my ribs and he kissed me on my stomach and my hips. He pulled down my shorts and followed the V that led between my legs. I was so glad I had shaved, even though I’d had no reason to.
Caden opened my thighs with his hands and I could feel how wet I was. He blew on my pussy and I shivered.
“You’re so wet,” Caden whispered.
“Yeah,” I said, and swallowed. I didn’t add that it was all for him.
Caden slid his fingers up and down my slit and I moaned when he touched my clit. It was like electricity shooting through my body. When he had done it a couple of times and I desperately wanted him to focus on my clit and make me orgasm, he pushed his fingers into me, not giving me what I wanted.
I cried out, feeling his fingers inside me. He wiggled them before he pumped his hand back and forth, fucking me with his fingers.
I moaned and moved my hips, countering his action, mimicking sex.
Caden closed his mouth over my clit and I cried out again when his tongue flicked over it. Suddenly, my attention was divided between the fingers in my pussy and his tongue on my clit, and it was hard to focus on either one. My body seemed to know where it was headed and I shivered and felt the orgasm creep closer and closer.
Caden sucked on my lips and my clit while he alternated the speed and intensity of his pumping. It flickered through my mind that he had done this before, for sure. But Caden had been with many women, there was no doubt about that.
Right now, I didn’t give a shit. We weren’t together and I was having the time of my life. I was drunk enough not to care what we were doing, but sober enough to enjoy it.
I forgot about everything and focused on the pleasure Caden was inflicting on my body. He was working magic on my pussy, pushing me closer and closer to the edge. I was ready to topple over when Caden stopped moving his fingers and focused his tongue on my clit, flicking faster and faster until I cried out and my first orgasm rocked through my body.
I bucked my hips against Caden’s mouth. He carried on licking and sucking, relentless and I came undone at the seams. It was fantastic and I closed my eyes, losing myself.
Caden stopped sucking on me and he slowly pulled his fingers out of my pussy. I was breathing hard and I lifted my head to look at him. He grinned at me. I laid back and panted, trying to pull myself together. Caden disappeared for a moment and pulled a condom out of his bag. He slipped the condom on and crawled over me again, but this time, he was naked, too. He had gotten rid of his boxers and when I looked down, I saw his monster cock in the moonlight. To say he was well endowed was an understatement. Or maybe I had been with men who weren’t as blessed as they should have been. Either way, when Caden crawled toward me with his dick hard and ready to enter me, I shivered.
Caden kissed me and the head of his dick pushed against my entrance. I cried out as he pushed into me, splitting me in half. He slid in further and further until he was buried right up against my cervical wall before he pulled back again.
As if Caden knew he was big and knew I needed time to adjust to his size, Caden slid slowly in and out a few times for me to get used to the idea of him. As if he knew when I was ready, Caden started moving faster and faster. Missionary was supposed to be the most boring position but Caden made it my favorite. His face was above mine and he looked me in the eyes as he pumped into me, faster and faster. I cried out as he pounded into me, bumping up against my cervical wall. The pleasure was just this side of pain and it was so good I couldn’t control myself. If I had wanted to hold back my orgasm, I would have failed miserably.
I orgasmed again, crying out, squeezing my eyes shut and grabbing onto Caden’s shoulders. My nails dug into his skin and I tried not to hurt him, but the orgasm was mind-blowing. I couldn’t stop myself from grabbing onto him and riding out what Caden had to offer.
When I finally opened my eyes, gasping, Caden was grinning at me.
“You’re so hot when you do that,” he said.
I blushed despite myself. Caden pulled out of me and I gasped. He flipped me over as if I weighed nothing and I pushed up on all fours. Caden put his hands on my hips and positioned himself on his knees between my legs. We were making the best of the tiny bed. When he pushed into me again, he was even bigger from this angle, I cried out and pressed one hand against the wall above the bed. Caden started pounding into me, not bothering to take it slow, this time.
I cried out and moaned and hoped to God the hotel walls weren’t paper thin, as Caden fucked me from behind. The oral sex and the first two orgasms had been all about me. But this was about Caden and what he wanted. He fucked me harder and faster, his strokes shortening and his body moved like a piston behind me. The rhythm, his balls slapping against my pussy and the feeling of ecstasy that came with every stroke was enough to keep me in an orgasmic state anyway.
Caden rammed into me and buried himself against my cervical wall, releasing. I felt him pumping into me and I cried out. I wasn’t sure if I experienced an echo of the last orgasm, or a new one, but pleasure racked my body and we moaned together.
When Caden pulled out of me, my arms and legs were numb and I collapsed on the bed. Caden crawled up next to me and I shifted a little to let him lie down next to me. I rolled onto his chest and he wrapped his arm around me.
We lay together in silence for a while and Caden’s breathing evened out so I thought he was sleeping, but when I wanted to move, he tightened his arm, unwilling to let me go.
I tipped my head up and he turned his face a little, although his eyes were still closed.
“We’ll get this whole thing settled,” I said.
“You mean the will?” Caden asked, sleepily.
“Yeah. Tonight was great. But I know this
is about the money, nothing more.” I wanted him to know I wasn’t here to trick him, to let him fuck me so that I could get some of the cash. I had climbed into bed with him because I had wanted him, not his money.
“Don’t worry about it,” Caden said.
“No, I mean it,” I said. “It was just sex. You’re okay with that, right?”
Caden nodded and dropped a kiss on my hair. “Sure. I do this all the time.”
I had known Caden was a ladies man and I was glad he saw it as just another one-night stand. I didn’t want him to think I was here with ulterior motives or that I was falling for him or something.
“We’ll settle it in the morning,” Caden said. He stopped talking and a moment later his breathing told me this time he was really sleeping.
I considered going back to my own bed, but I was comfortable and it felt great to be pressed up against another warm body, even if we were messy after sex. I had told Caden my intentions and I was satisfied that he didn’t think I wanted anything from him. I wasn’t even pissed or jealous that he had said he did this all the time.
I was relieved because this was nothing more than sex. Tomorrow, we would wake up and carry on like nothing happened. I would have a headache, a fond memory of the night and no other extra feelings.
Closing my eyes, I started drifting off. Somewhere in the back of my mind I wondered if I believed what I had said, that I didn’t want anything more and that it was just sex. But I had to believe it because it was true. I was only here for Caden and not myself.
Right? Of course. It was just the wine that was confusing me, plus the post-coital bliss and the idea that for the first time in a long time, I wasn’t sleeping alone.
Chapter 11
Caden
When I opened my eyes, I was aware of Harper on my chest. I tipped my head and glanced down at her. She was sleeping peacefully, her long lashes brushing her cheeks and her red hair fanned over my chest. She was angelic when she slept. I had seen a lot of women sleep—it was usually my cue to skip out on them—but none of them were ever as beautiful as Harper. Maybe I was biased after having the best fucking sex ever.
